In partnership with The Perky Nerd, Bob Brinker Memorial Veterans Foundation (BBMVF) put together “Welcome Home” packets containing a bookmark and two comic books for 300 active military service men and women returning from overseas in the coming months. The comic books were donated by patrons of The Perky Nerd comic book shop in Burbank, California through their “Heroes For Heroes” comic book donation program. Shop owner Tiffany Melius, who is married to a US Marine veteran, started this program as a way of giving back to our military. BBMVF partnered with Melius to help deliver and provide funds for shipping the comic book donations to our military serving around the world.
In addition, with money raised at the June 3rd fundraiser, BBMVF purchased pretzel packets for all 300 military service men and women. Bob loved his pretzels and anyone who knew him or worked with him would recognize the Utz pretzel containers. He always had at least one container at work and at home. If Bob were here, the pretzels would be the first snack item he purchased to donate so Bob’s youngest, Kelly, did it for him.
As a Vietnam veteran, Bob never received a “Welcome Home” celebration. In fact, he spoke of how people lined up to spit on them when they returned from Vietnam. He made it his mission to make sure that future generations of military were treated with respect and taught his children and grandchildren to do the same. BBMVF was honored to be asked to participate in the homecoming activities in Southern California and we will happily do it again and again.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
