So, it has been a minute…or two…or a million since I have posted on here. I am not going to lie. It has been a rough few years. We made it through the pandemic but not unscathed.
To be honest, I was seriously considering shuttering the foundation. We have been hit with obstacle after obstacle the last few years. While trying to use other platforms to send funds to veterans in need, we wound up losing our accounts. No explanations were given and we were told there was no way to get the accounts back without getting lawyers involved. So we no longer have Paypal or Venmo.
Monetary donations dwindled and our bank closed our account due to inactivity. We tried doing a call to action for the local Stand Downs and wound up having to pay for all the backpacks ourselves. (Well, still paying because I put it on my credit card). We are so broke that my Mom and sister paid the rent on our office space.
So it seemed like it was time to let go. I shutdown our social media accounts and was planning on ending this website when the hosting contract ends in May. Then I just had to figure out how to dissolve the foundation.
But now things have changed. Last month we received a message from an Airman serving in Germany. This is a family friend so we knew something was happening if he was reaching out for assistance. (I will do another post on his request). So this brought us back to memories of how Dad jumped into action when the war in Iraq started and the government was talking about reinstating the draft. Dad was drafted and sent to Vietnam. He vowed he would never let another military person feel the way they felt. “You can be against the war but not against the men and women risking their lives for our country.” That was important to Dad.
So maybe this is breathing life back into our foundation or this is how we end–the way Dad’s efforts began. Only time will tell.
